Catahoula - A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2020, at St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula for Septieme Borel, 93, who passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Dion Hall in Catahoula from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Saturday and continue on Sunday at 8:00 am until 1:00 pm. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm on Saturday.
Rev. Bill Melancon will officiate at the Funeral Service. Readers will be Sonya B. Thibodeaux, Sydni B. Perry, and Shelbi Guidry. Gift Bearers will be Josette and Cameron Derouen. Interment will follow at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Catahoula.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at St. Rita Catholic Church.
Septieme worked for the Louisiana State Department of Highways for 30 years and after retirement, he joined his brother and nephews during the sugarcane season. He also crawfished after cane season ended. Septieme was raised as a farmer’s son and learned how to live off the land. He loved horse races, dancing, playing cards, helping prepare food for benefits, and spending time with his family and friends on weekends . Septieme's children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren completed his world and filled it with happiness and sunshine.
He is survived by his son, Ronald Borel of Parks; daughter, Susan B. Doucet of St. Martinville; brother, Phillip Borel of Catahoula; sister, Mary Borel Albert and husband Ramsey of Catahoula; godchild, Betty Theriot LeBlanc of Breaux Bridge; sister-in-law, Edia Bourque Borel of New Iberia; grandchildren, Sonya B. Thibodeaux, Josette D. Derouen, Sandy B. Frederick, Shawn B. Guidry, Sharon B. Perry and Savannah B. LeBlanc; great grandchildren, Sosha, Sierra and Skylar Richard, Destiny Sonnier, Cameron Derouen, Lauren, Dylan and Kyle Frederick, Jordan, Shelbi and Landon Guidry, Sydni, Trey, and Ryan Perry, Sarae, Samatha and Branson LeBlanc; and great-great grandchildren, Chase, Jr. and Serenity Brasseaux and Hayden and Owen Guidry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laurent and Clara Theriot Borel; wife, Edmonia Dugas Borel; grandson, Ryan Borel; son-in-law, Alex Doucet, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Sandra Albert Borel; brothers, Joseph and his wife Amelia Courville Borel, Clovis and his wife Ella Bourque Borel, Pierre Borel, Lawrence and his wife Laura Bordelon Borel, Jr., Marcel and his wife Hazel Latiolais Borel, Amilcar and his spouses Rita Oregon and Martha Cogwells Borel; sisters, Orelia "Myon" B. and husband Adam Bijeaux, Edith B. and her husband William Theriot, Corinne B. and her husband Alvin Dugas, Olivia Borel, Elmire Borel; sisters-in-law, Laura Barras Borel, Bernadette and her husband Ozema (Black) Courville, Laurence and her husband Costa Latiolais, Mable and her husband Antoine Bourque, and Antonia and her husband Fabian Bourque; and brother-in-law, Daniel Dugas.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne and Sonya Thibodeaux, Jordan and Josette Derouen, Lance and Sandy Frederick, Marty and Shawn Guidry, Lane and Sharon Perry, and Brooks and Savannah LeBlanc.
