St. Martinville - A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a .m., on Thursday, February 24, 2011 , at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Mark Joseph George, 62, who passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at his residence. Fr. Justin Arockiasmay, SVD, will officiate at the memorial service. Mark was a veteran of the United States Army having proudly and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War, and was the recipient of the Bronze Medal for his service. He worked as a welder for many years, while obtaining his welding certification, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars - Post 1982, the Vietnam Veterans of America , and the Disabled American Veterans. Mark, better known to many of his family and friends as 'Boo' or 'Bruiser,' was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time. As well as being an avid sports fan, he thoroughly enjoyed watching football. Mark was a loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and a great friend to many, who treasured those times he spent with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Susan Breaux George of St. Martinville; his daughter, Danitra George Locks, and her husband, James, of Lafayette; his son, Ron George of St. Martinville; father, William George, Sr. of St. Martinville; eight brothers, Alvin George, Sr., of Lafayette, Calvin George of Baton Rouge, William George, Jr. St. Martinville, Stephen George of Lafayette, Collins George, Edmond George, Eddie George, and Lennis George, all of St. Martinville; three sisters, Shirley G. Brown New Orleans, Hattie Tripeaux Loreauville, and Patricia T. Williams of Lafayette; and his three grandchildren, who meant the world to him, Rionne George and Moriana George of St. Martinville, and Javen Locks of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jean Batiste George. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the funeral home from 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, with a recitation of the Rosary at 8 a.m. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
