Genevieve Lasseigne

July 28, 1928 — February 8, 2011

St.Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. , on Friday, February 11, 2011 , at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Mrs. Jacques Ned Lasseigne, the former Genevieve Duplantis . Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. Monsignor Douglas Courville will conduct the services. A loving wife, caring mother, and 'Saintly' grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Genevieve Duplantis Lasseigne, died February 8, 2011 at her residence in St. Martinville. Genny was 82 years old. Prior to her husband's (Ned) death in 2006, Genny was his devoted caretaker who rarely left his side. They were married 59 years. Mrs. Lasseigne / Maw-Maw was a lifelong resident of St. Martinville where she raised 9 children and ran the busy household, often traveling with her children to places in Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Louisiana where her husband worked on a dredge boat for T. L. James. Genny - Maw as she was known by her grandchildren - was considered a saint by all people who met her. During her rare angry moments she would say, 'Oh Goodness!' In addition to raising her children, Maw raised many of her grandchildren. After her children were grown and had families of their own, Maw-Maw cared for her husband Ned Lasseigne, and nurtured her 27 grandchildren, several foster grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. In 2003 it was discovered that one of her adult daughters - who at the time was 42 years old - was accidentally switched at birth, which meant Genny now had 10 children. Mrs. Lasseigne is survived by all of her 10 children - Esther Lasseigne; Sheila Prioux (and husband Gary Prioux); Jacques Lasseigne, Jr. (and wife Anne Whittington); Andy Lasseigne (and wife Joan Lasseigne); Clyde Lasseigne (and wife Tammy Thibodeaux); Lise Romero (and husband Roy Romero); Michele LeBlanc (and husband Benny LeBlanc); Alvin Lasseigne (and wife Paula Tassin); Claire Parr (and husband Scott Parr); and Yvonne Blanchard (and husband Bryan Blanchard). Her surviving siblings include one sister - Judy Carnahan Webb (Houston) - and three brothers: Homer 'Junior' Duplantis (Houston), Emery Duplantis (New Iberia), and Allan Duplantis (Broussard). Genny was preceded in death by her parents Homer and Henrietta Duplantis; her husband Jacques 'Ned' Lasseigne, Sr.; and her older sister Florence 'Flo' Suire. Mrs. Lasseigne also spent much of her childhood at her maternal grandparents Sidney and Rena Mouton, who lived in Parks, Louisiana. Many thanks to Linda Cormier, Ms. Genny's sitter for five years, who has been a GOD-SEND! Becky Crochet was also a wonderful substitute sitter. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011 and continue until time of service on Friday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Maws grandsons. Pellerin Funeral Homeof St.Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
