Doris Bailey Cormier

New Iberia - It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow we announce that after a lengthy illness, and well into her 90th year. Doris Bailey Cormier entered Eternal life, a place of refreshment, light, and peace, with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 9:30 PM on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at her home. To celebrate her life, visitation at 1:30 pm and a Holy Mass of Christian Burial at 2:30 pm was held at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 with burial at the church mausoleum. Father Ed Degeyter was celebrant for all services. Doris was the daughter of Cleveland Bailey and Aspazie Vincent – Mrs. Vernice Meyers. Besides being preceded in death by her parents, & stepfather, she was also preceded by her husband, Rodney A. Cormier, son Craig Cormier, and beloved aunt Viola “Bye” Toucheque. Doris loved her family so much. She is survived by her grand children Ben, and Copper Cormier, great-grandchildren Blake, and Devon Cormier, sister Janelle Meyers Lovaaser (who was also her godchild). Daughter-in-law, Charlene “Charley” Sapienza Cormier, as well as nephew, Robert Lovasser, and niece Cheryl L. Judice. Doris is also survived by her dear close friends, Buford, and Willa Faulk, who helped her so much especially since Rodney’s death. We wish to thank them for making her life easier and for every kindness, and courtesy extended to her for at least 5 years. They were just like family members and were there for her every step of the way through her final illness. During her working years, Doris was employed by Judge Ward Tilley. She was quite a character and the ultimate “people person”, who never knew a stranger and enjoyed making friends. A lover of all animals, Doris adored her pet cats “Callie” and “the three stooges” – Mo, Curly, and Larry. Long ago, her favorite dog ever, a Doberman Pincher saved her life. She enjoyed dancing, shopping for clothes, and driving her mustangs around town, for which she became know as “Mustang Sally.” We also wish to thank Chris Thibodeaux and Azalea Estates, Dr. George Cousin, attorneys Steve Mestayer and David Lamm, Lori L. Larive, all her devoted sitters including Kim Johnson, Deedie Joseph, Theresa and Rose Wagner, and everyone who helped or was concerned about Doris’s welfare. Pallbearers were Devon Cormier, Kenneth Rochelle, Ivan Domingue, Jake Guidry, Wayne Boudreaux, , and Devon Danos. Honorary pallbearers were Benjamin Cormier, Robert Lovaaser, Jr., Lonnie Migues, and Buford Faulk. If anyone wishes to donate in Doris’ memory, please consider either the Alzheimer’s Association to fight the devastating illness which took both Dori and Rodney from us or Hospice of Acadiana.
