New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial for Charles ""Pete"" Dorsey, 82, will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, June 9, 2006, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with Rev. Steve LeBlanc as the Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd. in New Iberia, from 8:00 AM until time of service. A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Dorsey died at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 07, 2006 at 4:15 AM following a lengthy illness. Pete was a graduate of New Iberia High School and Louisiana State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II as a pilot and was recalled for two years during the Korean Conflict. Following that war he was in service for five years with the Dept. of Justice as an FBI agent. He then returned home where he owned and operated Dorsey Insurance Agency and Iberia Realty Co. for 40 years. He belonged to various civic and veterans organizations where he served as President of the Insurance Exchange as well as Commander of VFW Post 1982. He was a member of the Iberia Parish School Board and served on the Board of Directors of City Bank & Trust (now Chase Bank). He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Doris Powell Dorsey; a son, Douglas Duaine Dorsey and wife, Judy of New Iberia; two daughters, Dr. Denise Dorsey and husband, Charles Lee of New Orleans, and DeLisa D. Arnold of Baton Rouge; one sister, Lucille D. McClendon of Luling, LA.; six grandchildren, Douglas D. Dorsey, Jr. and wife Lisa and their two children Garrett and Taylor of Lafayette; David T. Dorsey and wife Christy of New Iberia, and Dustin D. Dorsey of New Iberia; Sgt. Stefan H. Arnold, USMC; Michelle Arnold of Baton Rouge; and Erica A. Lee of New Orleans. Mr. Dorsey was preceded in death by his grandson, Derek S. Lee; by his parents, Victor Dave Dorsey and Beulah LeBlanc Dorsey; two brothers, Robert Dorsey and Harold Dorsey; one sister, Roberta Ronsonett. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews of Mr. Dorsey. The family is very grateful to the wonderful caretakers who assisted them as well as to Hospice of Acadiana for their great care. The family requests that memorials be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Building Fund, 2514 Old Jeanerette Road, New Iberia, LA. 70563, or to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston Street, Suite 200, Lafayette, LA. 70503.
