Becky Toups

New Iberia - Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, November 28, 2011, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in New Iberia, for Becky Landry Toups, 61, who passed away on Friday, November 25, 2011 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia. Reverand Roland Fontenot, Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, will officiate the services. Becky, a resident of Iberia Parish, was a daughter of the late Wesley J. Landry and Rita Bonin Landry. She was born on August 4, 1950 and was raised along with one brother and sister on the same property where she lived and died. She graduated from New Iberia Senior High in 1968 and the Lester Mae School of Dance. She spent most of her employment career as a seamstress for Landrys Uniform, New Iberia. Survivors include one son, Shane M. Toups and his wife, Amanda, of Oklahoma City, OK; one daughter, Mary Toups Herrell of New Iberia; four grandchildren, Tyler Toups, Hayden Toups, Zachary Herrell, and Hailie Herrell; one brother, J. Wayne Landry and his wife, Jenny, of New Iberia; one sister, Peggy Pope and her husband, Ron, of New Iberia. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her two uncles, Harold and Hardy Landry, who were very special to her. Becky, better known as 'Ma Beck,' enjoyed dancing, playing music and gatherings with her friends and relatives. She lived a simple, caring life and had an enormous sense of fairness and kindness. She enjoyed her Bouree games with Jimmy and Linda Peltier and Ricky and Bridgett Frederick. She also loved listening to the Lydia jam sessions at Pegs Lounge, provided by her dear friend, 'Aunt Millie.' She wished to express a special gratitude to Earl and Jean Landry, for all their support and kindness during her time of illness. She cherished them both as employers and personal friends. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., in New Iberia. A Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday at 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Pallbearers include Preston and Tyler Toups, Jimmy Peltier, John Richard, Kenny Brantley, David Landry, and Ronald Pope. Honorary pallbearers include Bridgett Frederick, Valerie Morvant, Earline Delcambre, Linda Peltier, Carolyn Henry, Carla Thibodeaux, Cynthia Abshire, and Erica Hebert Toups. The family would like to thank Drs. Stokes, Renaldi, OBrien, and the medical staff at Iberia Medical Center, for the exceptional medical care provided to her. Becky wished to express a very special heartfelt thanks to her caretakers, Amber Grumwald, Yvette Viator, and Angela Romero.
